something fascinating for your friday

April 18, 2008

One of my favorite blogs to read is kottke.org.  Sometimes called the Matt Laurer of the Internet, Jason Kottke essentially picks out stories, posts, lists, etc from a variety of places and highlights the most interesting ones.  Recently he pointed out this fascinating story from wired.com about the “High Tech Cowboys of the Deep Seas“.  A salvage team that gets called all over the world to resurrect sinking or partially sunken ships.  Using 3-D modeling software, diving skills, trigonometry and a good amount of guts, this team helps otherwise lost ships recover.

Thanks to a well written article, excellent illustrations and eye opening look into a very bizarre world, I totally enjoyed reading this.  In some ways it reminded me of those true life rescue stores in Reader’s Digest that I would read when we visited my grandparents.
