I recently discovered these old assignments for my web-design class I took my last semester at GC. This was the class that made me wonder if I should have major in Graphic Design instead of History (not because I was good at it, but because I liked it so much). Anyways I thought you might enjoy some of these, they make me laugh at least.

GG Coffeeshop
Creating a complete website was our final project and I really went to town on this one, taking pictures of coffee beans and the shop, etc. Probably the most fun I had on any college project, period.

Final Exam
This one was a site we had to put together during the timed final, I have to say I had some fun with it. My favorite part is the robot eating the button.

Blogosphere
This one is especially fitting because I put together a bibliography for blogging. I link to a lot of bloggers that I still read on a regular basis and I think it is probably my favorite thing I did for that class.

PS. Some of the roommates and I just got back from seeing Blades of Glory, I have to say I about busted a rib laughing so hard.

5 weird things I do

April 13, 2007

Bindi over at Epossums made a list of her own obsessions recently, and as exemplified many times in this blog, I try not to have original ideas.  So here in no specific order is a list of my current obsessions:

1. Check my online banking 5-10 times a day.  I don’t entirely know why I do this, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I don’t actually balance my checkbook, or maybe I just can’t remember how much money I have, who knows but its my 6th ranked favorite on my “Favorite Site” list

2. Organize things alphabetically.  Thankfully I can say that I generally reserve this for items that work well in this order (i.e. cds, dvds, etc), but the weird thing is I have never bothered to alphabetize my own book collection.  I think this is because I could never decide between author order or title order.

3. Play Sudoko in Diablo mode (but with the penciled in possibilities setting on).  This one clearly places me in the deep end.  First of all, this all started when I discovered the Sudoko widget for my dashboard (MacBooks rock!).  I played for a while on Easy, moved eventually to Medium.  Then in a fit of hubris I tried Diablo, crazy man!  I got stuck repeatedly until I found this lovely little thing that shows all the possibilities for each block and now I am hooked.  I know this makes me both a nerd and a cheater, but I have found this to be the perfect zen activity in that it requires brain effort, but only enough to block out wandering thoughts.

4. Think about Carbs. Don’t ask!

5. Yearn for a real spring.  If you live in Chicago right now, you can probably understand this one, but in case you don’t.  Snow in April, people, snow in April!

and a good day to you too, sir

April 13, 2007

Last night on our way to the grocery store Becca was telling me about how working in customer service has really caused her to see the bad parts of people.  Unfortunately she often sees people before their doughnut and coffee, so in some ways it is a little understandable that people get a little grumpy.  So in order to deal with this, while also remaining a polite and courteous employee, Becca developed a code.  After dealing with a particularly lovely example of the human race, she would tell them to “Have a “Great” day”.  Only she would know that great, obviously meant awful and sucky, and the customer would never know the difference.

Although impressed with her plan, I asked her if she ever forgets and tells a nice customer to also “Have a “Great” day”.  She said she did, but figured the code didn’t apply in this case.  So I suggested to her to adjust her code to “Have a fantastic day” which when translated (drop the fanta part) would mean “have an ass tick day” or if the customer is especially lovely, she could try “have a fine fantastic day” or “have a five ass tick day”.  Because as we all know one ass tick isn’t quite enough for some people.
